Leverkusen Defeats Roma in Thrilling Semi-Final Clash
Bayer Leverkusen has etched its name in the history books, reaching the UEFA Europa League final after a nail-biting 2-2 draw with AS Roma on Thursday evening. The German side set a new European record, extending their unbeaten streak to 49 games in the process.
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams trading blows throughout. Leverkusen took the lead through Moussa Diaby's stunning strike, but Roma responded through Nicolo Zaniolo to level the score. The Italians looked to have snatched a late victory when Stephan El Shaarawy found the back of the net, but Leverkusen dug deep and forced an equalizer with just minutes remaining, courtesy of Amine Adli.
The result sends Leverkusen into their first major European final since 1988, where they will face Italian side Atalanta in Dublin on May 18th. The Werkself will be looking to cap off a memorable European campaign with their first Europa League title.
